The Cycle
© 2008 Jayme Kelly Curtis

Life abounds in the microscope
The unknown fills the telescope
I don't know where the cycle begins
But I know where it ends

It stops here
It stops here
It stops here

When I was young there was a place I could go
That seemed to be created just for me
You caved in, my world started to spin
Like a centrifuge and pinned, I was not free

It stops here
It stops here
It stops here

Stretching back and back and back
Through tin type photographs
The battlefield is mirrored in the eyes
Of my mother's father's mother
And all the sons and daughters
Who bear the wounds endured without surprise

It stops here
It stops here
It stops here

Cells collide, split and divide
A chain is formed, it holds us all our lives
I have seen how love can die
But I believe that it will live again

Starting here
Starting here
Starting here
