Running Start
© 2004 Jayme Kelly Curtis

I took off from a running start
And went crashing through the ice for my trouble
Straight into the cold, into the bought and sold
I nearly fractured every bone in my body
I didn’t notice that the ice was thin
I might have picked a better place to begin
I was trying to get across the water
To a place where I could foster
The holy spirit's daughter

I took off from a running start
And the ground cracked open underneath me
Way down in the hole I nearly lost control
Of the purpose and the need and the feeling
I was trying to gain some ground
Making up for the way you let me down
I didn’t know it would be so cold
I never thought he would be so bold
To steal my dreams and leave me all alone

I took off from a running start
Breached the wall of the sound of the future
I reached for the sky, oh God, I nearly died
But I lived to tell the tale and I’m richer
And the world can be warm
If you let the sun perform
And the ice is just like diamonds
The ice is just like diamonds
The ice is just like diamonds
