"Who is this that darkeneth knowledge by words without counsel?"
The Lord, to Job

Who can know the mind of God?
And yet we second-guess his choices
Our failures echo ever clearer
And yet we fail to recognize his hand when we look into the mirror
Out in the garden we chant the handy rhyme
And every fair from wretched we divine
Red next to black is a friend to Jack
Red next to yellow will kill a fellow
And we’re kept safe from harm most every time
But sometimes in the dappled sun and green
We miss the signs that things aren’t all they seem
False friends may hiss through cold, thin lips
That once sang lullabies
And we feel the bite that lashes out
And takes you by surprise
Who can know the mind of God?
And yet we second-guess his choices
Our failures echo ever clearer
And yet we fail to recognize his hand when we look into the mirror
Your wings push through your clothes for all to see
You grab the mic to sing in harmony
Such brazen acts draw swift attacks
And the dread of Damocles
And they pin you like a butterfly
On the sword of jealousy
